PROMs in ENT
Beyond functional tests
Audiogram, nasofibroscopy, polysomnography, sinus CT scan: ENT has no shortage of objective examinations.
However, these indicators reveal nothing about the social discomfort caused by an altered voice, the exhaustion from fragmented sleep, or the gradual isolation that comes with hearing becoming a constant effort.
PROMs bridge the gap between what examinations reveal and what patients experience in their daily lives.
“Out-of-pocket costs for hearing aids have been reformed with the ‘100% Santé’ full coverage policy. But are we truly measuring the improvement for patients? PROMs are essential to evaluate the impact of this reform.”
Prof. Michel Mondain,
Chair of the French National Professional Council of ENT and Head & Neck Surgery
For hearing disorders
Difficulty understanding in noisy environments, tinnitus, social isolation, listening fatigue, and impact on professional and family life. Two patients with comparable audiogram thresholds can report radically different health outcomes.
PROMs enable:
- Quantify the real impact of hearing impairment on daily life beyond measured decibels
- Assess symptoms such as tinnitus, listening fatigue, communication difficulties, and social anxiety
- Track quality of life changes after hearing aid fitting or cochlear implantation
- Personalize care according to specific needs: speech therapy, psychological support, workplace adaptation
Aggregated data support continuous improvement of care pathways and clinical research.
Since 2022, PromTime has been working with the French National Professional Council of ENT on PROMs in audiology.
